Why Levin Car Owners Get Paint Correction Done

Your car loses resale value the moment the paint starts to look dull, scratched, or covered in swirl marks. Buyers notice it. Dealers dock it off the offer. Paint correction fixes the surface before that happens.

In Horowhenua and up the Kapiti Coast, cars cop a lot. UV off the Tasman, road grit on State Highway 1, salt air if you're near the coast. That exposure breaks down your clear coat faster than most people realise. Left untreated, it becomes permanent.

Getting paint correction done is also the right step before applying a ceramic coating or paint protection film. You can't seal in damage. Correct the paint first, protect it after, and you've got a finish that holds up and holds its value.

The Paint Correction Process

1

Decontamination Wash

Before any machine touches your paint, the car gets a full decontamination wash including an iron fallout treatment and clay bar. This pulls bonded contamination out of the clear coat so the polish works on the paint itself, not on a layer of grit.

45-90 mins
2

Paint Depth and Condition Assessment

A paint depth gauge is used across every panel to check how much clear coat is available to work with. This determines which correction stage is right for your car and makes sure nothing is over-polished or compromised.

15-30 mins
3

Machine Correction

Using dual-action and rotary polishers with the correct compound and pad combination for your paint type, the correction work is done panel by panel. Swirl marks, light scratches, water etching, and oxidation are worked out of the clear coat.

2-6 hours depending on stage and vehicle size
4

Refinement and Gloss Polish

After the cutting work, a finer polish is used to refine the surface and maximise clarity and gloss. This step removes any micro-marring left by the correction compounds and brings the paint up to its cleanest finish.

1-2 hours
5

Final Inspection and Panel Wipe

Every panel is wiped down with an IPA solution to remove all polish oils and reveal the true corrected finish. The car is then inspected under high-intensity lighting to confirm the result before handover.

Paint Correction FAQ

Detail City Ltd offers three correction tiers: Single Stage, Two Stage, and Multi-Stage. The cost varies depending on the stage required, your vehicle size, and the condition of the paint. Contact Nash for a free quote specific to your car.
A Single Stage correction typically takes 4 to 6 hours. A Two Stage correction runs 6 to 8 hours. A Multi-Stage correction on a heavily neglected vehicle can take a full day or more. Larger vehicles like utes and SUVs take longer than small hatchbacks.
The correction itself is permanent. Swirl marks and scratches that have been polished out do not come back on their own. However, how long your paint stays in that condition depends on how the car is washed and maintained going forward. Pairing the correction with a ceramic coating significantly extends the result.
The biggest thing is switching to a proper hand wash or contactless wash method. Automatic brushes and improper wash techniques are what put swirls back into the paint. Using a quality spray wax or sealant every few months also helps maintain the finish between details.
The correction work itself is guaranteed. If you notice areas that have not been corrected to the expected standard, Nash will sort it out. Any warranty on long-term protection depends on whether a coating is applied over the corrected paint.
For swirl marks, light scratches, and oxidation, paint correction is a better option than respraying. A respray introduces new paint that can itself be scratched, whereas correction restores what is already there without affecting your car's factory finish. Resprays are only necessary when the clear coat is gone completely or the panel is deeply gouged.
Paint correction removes defects that sit within the clear coat layer. If you can feel a scratch with your fingernail, it has cut through to the base coat or bare metal and cannot be fully polished out. Those scratches can be improved in appearance but not eliminated without touch-up paint or a respray.
No. Detail City Ltd services Levin, Foxton, Shannon, Palmerston North, Otaki, Waikanae, and Paraparaumu. If you are not sure whether your area is covered, get in touch and Nash will confirm.
